No to War
Letterpress Prints
In response to global conflicts during the serge of Ukrainian War, the Letterpress United initiated the "No to War" project, an international call for anti-war posters. This initiative encouraged printers worldwide to create and share posters bearing the message "No to War" in their native languages. These posters are designed using traditional letterpress techniques, emphasizing the timeless power of the printed word to convey messages of peace.
At the time, I was in Chicago, IL, and did not have access to Japanese print blocks. Instead, I decided to use small ornaments to create 戦争反対, which translates to "against war" in Japanese. In the midst of the pandemic, letterpress became a form of meditation for me—a way to process everything that was happening at the time. I am grateful to have met my mentor, Richard, and the fellow artists with whom I shared this creative space.
